Due to high ridership, the state of California came to Amtrak’s design group with funding to design a new fleet of cars. This fleet would consist of four car types; however, the main focus of this new fleet was the dining car. Some specific requests were to consolidate the lounge seating to one end of the car – creating space for revenue seats on the other side. Fixing current traffic flow issues, modernize the galley area, and creating new color and material palettes were a few of the design issues.
